How the Complaint Investigation process works

If you have a concern or complaint about an occupational therapist practicing in Alberta, the concern must be submitted in writing, signed by the complainant, and sent to the attention of the Complaints Director, Alberta College of Occupational Therapists, 300, 10436 – 81 Avenue, Edmonton, Alberta  T6E 1X6.

You will need to include the following information in your statement:

  • the full name of the occupational therapist
  • as much detail as possible about your concern
  • your daytime telephone number, your email address, and your mailing address

The Complaints Director has the discretion to follow several courses of action, some of which are:

Each of these processes is designed to ensure fairness to both the person filing the complaint and the occupational therapist who is named in the complaint. Within 30 days of receiving a complaint, the Complaints Director will give notice to the complainant of the action taken with respect to the complaint. The complaint, investigation and hearing process is set out in the Health Professions Act.
