The public receives competent, ethical occupational therapy.

·         Occupational Therapists are qualified on entry to the profession.

o    Only competent Occupational Therapists hold registration.

o    Only registered Occupational Therapists are entitled to practice occupational therapy.

o    Registered members possess the knowledge, skills and attitudes and judgement required to provide occupational therapy services competently.

o    Registered members are of good character, repute and fitness.

o    Occupational Therapists limit their professional activities to areas in which they are competent.

·         Occupational Therapists maintain competent and ethical practice.

o    Occupational Therapists all meet a defined Standard of Practice.

o    Occupational Therapists abide by the College Code of Ethics.

o    Occupational Therapists participate in a continuing competence program.

Only competent and ethical Occupational Therapists hold registration in the Alberta College of Occupational Therapists.

Regulated members provide occupational therapy services competently.

·         Occupational Therapists will take responsibility for maintaining their own competence through the legislated continuing competence program.

Complaints about unprofessional conduct are responded to and addressed promptly as per the Health Professions Act, RSA 2000 cH-7 to ensure a fair transparent process that follows the rules of natural justice.

·          Occupational Therapists found guilty of unprofessional conduct are restricted from practicing.

The College is a business organization that ensures Albertan’s receive competent, ethical occupational therapy services at a reasonable cost to the regulated members.
