Quality Assurance Activities

A framework of quality assurance activities seeks to ensure the appropriateness of the individual continuing competence plans and the reliability and validity of the review process.

Each reviewer is trained to conduct the review of continuing competence plans in a consistent manner.  Participation in a training session is required of all new reviewers.  The program contains a thorough review of the philosophy of the continuing competence program plus discussion of the role of reviews and reviewers within the program.  Mock-files are used to train the new reviewers.  Inter-rater reliability of the reviewers is checked via comparison of results of reviews on mock files.  Reviewers with experience in previous review cycles also are required to participate in inter-rater reliability testing.  All reviewers must achieve 90% score.

After completion of the review process, the Chair of the Competence Committee and the Associate Registrar meet with reviewers to evaluate the recent review process and to identify opportunities for improvement and/or efficiencies.
