Review Process Frequently Asked Questions

1.  What documents need to be submitted to the College when I am selected for review?

When you are selected for review, the College will be reviewing (1) your most recent, completed self assessment – for the year March 2008 to February 2009; and (2) your learning goals and activities for that year and the year prior to it – goals and activity logs for 2007-2008 and 2008-2009.

For this assessment, you will be required to submit:

  1. one completed self-assessment (step 1):  for 2008-2009
  2. two sets of learning goals (step 2):  for 2007-2008 and 2008-2009
  3. two sets of activity logs (step 3):  for 2007-2008 and 2008-2009

In total, the above submission requirements should be no more than 6 -10 pages of worksheets (4 self assessment pages; 1 to 3 learning goal pages; and approximately 1 to 3 activity log pages).

No other accompanying information is required at this time. Portfolio information ((ie., certificates, articles, handouts) should not be submitted. You should submit worksheet copies only. Documents submitted to the College will not be returned to you. Do not include binders or folders for the worksheets.

2.  How do I send my documents to the College?

Paper copies of the originals can be hand-delivered or mailed to:

Alberta College of Occupational Therapists

300, 10436 – 81 Avenue

Edmonton, AB

T6E 1X6

or faxed to:   780.434.0658

Electronic copies can be emailed to : patricia.wheadon@acot.ca

3.  What do I do if I can’t find all my continuing competence materials?

To avoid losing track of competence materials, it is recommended therapists keep an electronic copy of their plan in addition to a printed copy.

In the event that materials are lost, the occupational therapist will need to provide explanation to the College and then, retrospectively, as best as possible, reconstruct the goals and activity lists for review.
