requirements for IEOT registration

Education and experience


To register with the College, an internationally-educated occupational therapist (IEOT) applicant must demonstrate to the satisfaction of the Registrar that their qualifications are substantially equivalent to standard registration requirements.


Typically, applicants will have completed a baccalaureate degree in occupational therapy or an entry level masters degree in occupational therapy from a recognized university and are eligible to write, or have successfully completed, the national certification examination administered by the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists (CAOT).

Good character and reputation

Applicants must provide written evidence of having good character and reputation by submitting a reference from the jurisdiction in which the applicant is currently registered or other relevant evidence.

Professional liability insurance

Applicants must confirm they hold a minimum of five million dollars professional liability insurance. Professional liability insurance may be obtained through CAOT, www.caot.ca; the Society of Alberta Occupational Therapists, www.saot.ca; or through a private insurance broker.

English language fluency

Applicants must be sufficiently proficient in English to engage safely and competently in the practice of occupational therapy.
