What education does an occupational therapist have?

Occupational therapists are university graduates from an accredited occupational therapy program with a minimum of 1000 hours of supervised clinical education. As well, occupational therapists must pass a national certification examination.

An occupational therapist’s practice permit must be renewed each year with the Alberta College of Occupational Therapists. For an occupational therapist to qualify for renewal of his/her permit, the occupational therapist must show evidence of continuous learning and professional development.
